Muitas pessoas perguntam frequentemente, existe muita diferença entre português europeu e português brasileiro? Uma das coisas que os diferencia são as expressões cotidianas utilizadas que podem não fazer sentido ou ter um significado muito diferente do outro.
Aqui estão 3 exemplos:
‘Estou’
Em diversos idiomas, ao atender o telefone, a pessoa diz um cumprimento, como ‘olá’. Para os portugueses, o comum é afirmar que a pessoa está na linha e ao atender falar: ‘Estou’.
‘Fixe e giro!’
Ambas as expressões são usadas para ressaltar que algo é bonito, divertido e interessante. Por exemplo: ‘Esse seu corte de cabelo está fixe!’ ou ‘Vai ser giro ir jantar na sua casa esta noite!’.
‘Malta’
Significa um grupo de amigos. Por exemplo: ‘Ela sempre está a comer com a sua malta’.
‘O Rui é o homem mais rico da sua malta!’

3 expressions used by the Portuguese
People often ask us, is there much difference between European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese? One of the things that differentiates them is the everyday expressions used that
may not make any sense or have a very different meaning for the other.
Here are 3 examples:
‘Estou’ (I am)
In several languages, when answering the phone, the person says a greeting, like ‘hello’. For the Portuguese, the common way is to state that you are on the line, answering with an ‘Estou’.
‘Great! Cool’ (Giro e fixe)
Both expressions are used to emphasise that something is beautiful, great, fun or cool. For example, ‘That haircut of yours is cool!’ or ‘It'll be great to go to your place for dinner tonight!’
‘Guys’ (Malta)
It means a group of friends. For example, "She's always eating with her gang."
"Rui is the richest man in his gang!"
